TUESDAY JULY 6, 2010
On Thursday 16 September 2010, ETRA organises an (electric) cycle show on the esplanade of the European Parliament in Brussels.
The show is aimed at making members of the European Parliament and Commission staff aware of the potential of (electric) cycling in urban transport. The event is part of Mobility Week. Every year, the EU dedicates the week from 16 till 22 September to the promotion of sustainable transport.
With this event ETRA wants to illustrate how easy it is for short trips to swap the car for a greener means of transport by showing contemporary (electric) bicycles, components and accessories for urban cycling.
On the esplanade of the European Parliament participating companies can show their products to MEPs, their staff, staff from the European Commission and other European institutions. The visitors will also have the possibility to effectively try products out on the Gopedelec test-track.
The event will have two main political themes:
- cyclists' safety in anticipation of the new Road Safety Action Programme for the period 2011 - 2021
- the inclusion of electric bicycles in the European electric mobility policies
ETRA is developing several peripheral activities to bring these themes under the attention of the visitors. We are looking into the possibility of organising a high-level meeting on the remarkable "conference bike". Furthermore, we are preparing an awareness-raising campaign on the issue of cyclists' safety. We are also inviting related organisations and initiatives, i.e. European funded projects involving cycling such as Presto, Gopedelec, Aeneas, Obis, ..., public transport companies that promote inter- and co-modality, cities that promote cycling as part of the solution to congestion, pollution, ...
All further details on this ETRA event are in the information file below. Please register as soon as possible since we will operate on a first come, first serve basis. Also, ETRA's associated members will be given priority.
In the past ETRA has organised similar events. Please check our website for further details: European Mobility Week 2007, Green Week 2008, EMAS event & TREN day 2009.
